KML's new voices in comedy fellowships
Killing My Lobster’s New Voices in Comedy Fellowships is a program designed to amplify voices from the Bay Area BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities. We aim to recognize and collaborate with up-and-coming writers from varied experiences.
once a fellowship recipient has gone through their 14 weeks of classes, they become part of our collaborative community by working on a professional kml show.
The 2022 submission windows for our Writing Fellowships are open October 10th-31st, 2022. We are once again accepting submissions for both writers and actors.
Program History
In 2015, KML’s Diversity in Comedy Fellowships were established to increase access for up and coming comedy writers from marginalized and underrepresented communities. Through these fellowships, we encourage writers to become head writers, actors to become directors, and both to become KML instructors, thus expanding visibility and support for those whose voices are often unheard in sketch comedy.
In the fall of 2016, the program grew to include not just writers, but performers as well.
In the fall of 2017, the programs expanded further, to include LGBTQIA+ writers and performers.
In the fall of 2021, we relaunched our fellowships program as KML’s New Voices In Comedy Fellowships. Due to the pandemic, the 2022 class of fellows will be for writers only.
To date, we have awarded 24 Diversity in Comedy Fellowships investing roughly $45,000 in this ongoing program, without additional outside support.
If you would like to support the growth of these unique programs, you can do so here.
